Augie’s Family Visitation Center Experience

On September 26th, Augustana’s Circle K joined forces with the South Sioux Falls Kiwanis, our sponsoring club, to volunteer at the Family Visitation Center in Sioux Falls. The Family Visitation Center “is dedicated to preserving parent-child relationships by providing a safe and supportive environment for children to visit with non-custodial adults where there has been domestic abuse, child abuse, conflict with visitation, or long-term difficulty between parent and child” (Family Visitation website: http://tiny.cc/EgOAu). The Center provides the opportunity for adults to interact with children in controlled situations or will aid in the transfer of children from one adult to the next in situations where it is better if the adults don’t interact. Their fabulous services left them with a need for more space, so in September the Circle K/Kiwanis force helped with some painting, clean up, entertaining some of the children that came by with designing tiles that are to be mounted onto the front desk, and put together name tag bags for the safety bears that the children get to pick out. Mankato-Winona Interclub

On Saturday, November 14th, members of the Winona State Circle K club took a visit to Mankato to help the MNSU Circle K with their Adopt-a-Highway clean-up!  While the event did not quite reach interclub status, we all had a lot of fun and completed a great service project in the process!
